Buddy’s Place of Pillars is a family-based children’s grief support program for children ages 4-18 who have experienced the death of a parent or significant caregiver. Buddy’s Place offers children and their surviving parents a safe supportive atmosphere where they can express their grief and learn coping skills with others who have experienced a similar loss.

Buddy’s Place is looking for volunteers to help support grieving children and their families in a variety of ways, including Greeter, Group Facilitator, Childcare, and preparing dinners. The required 20 hour training has been scheduled for April 15,22,29; May 6 & 10 from 5-9pm. Portfolio, an exhibition that showcases the work of DuPage County’s senior high school art students, will be on display April 3 to May 3 at Elmhurst Art Museum, 150 S. Cottage Hill Ave. The Museum worked directly with local area schools and art teachers. Student art portfolios will be juried for exhibition. Each portfolio consists of eight works of art created with the same medium. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday; 1-8 p.m. Wednesday, 1-4 p.m. Friday and Sunday. Careers in the Arts Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 20 at Elmhurst Art Museum, 150 Cottage Hill Ave. Art professionals will present what they do for a living and explain how they started their careers. Portfolio 101 is a free seminar from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 23 at Elmhurst Art Museum, 150 Cottage Hill Ave. The seminar is open to all high school students who are interested in preparing their portfolio for college applications. Johnny Rogers will recapture the musical era of the 1950s and 1960s in a concert benefiting SEASPAR, the South East Association for Special Parks and Recreation, at 7 p.m. April 28 at Tivoli Theatre, 5021 Highland Ave., Downers Grove. As the opening act, the Rock Academy, a rock school for teens, will perform beginning at 6 p.m. Johnny Rogers will put on his horn rimmed glasses, strum his guitar and perform classics from famed musicians such as Elvis, Johnny Cash and Buddy Holly. Music at Bethel season finale features the duo Voilá at 7:30 p.m. May 8 at Bethel United Church of Christ, 315 E. St. Charles Road, Elmhurst. Acclaimed internationally as solo artists, chamber music performers and orchestral musicians, the wonderful members of Voilá, flutist Mary Christine Stingley and harpist Tija Danilovich, will be joined by Artistic Director Jeffrey Panko in an evening of passionate and inspiring chamber music. Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra presents Monumental Music at 7 p.m. May 15 at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 155 W. Brush Hill Road. The guest artist will be Kate Carter on violin and the program will be Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 61 by Ludwig van Beethoven and Symphony No. 2 in D, Op. 43 by Jean Sibelius. A DOGGONE GREAT KISSER
That wet, sloppy kiss from your dog could be a winner at the Fourth annual Chicagoland Great American Mutt Show in Berwyn. The Saturday show will feature 15 contests for canines, including best kisser, waggiest tail and most creative trick as well as the best in show — a contest set aside for mixed breeds only. Participants also can enter the cutest mutt contest at www.muttshow.com. The Chicagoland DockDogs will host an agility tournament on Sunday to demonstrate their dock jumping performance sport for dogs. Purebreds and mutts are welcome. All dogs must have proof of vaccinations and be on a leash to be on premises.

Hinsdale Center for the Arts announces its multi-arts camp. Destination Japan! will meet from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. or from 1 to 4:15 p.m. June 14-25. Children will explore the history of tea, paper making, block prints and Japanese Painting as well as the four traditional theaters: noh, kyogen, kabuki, and bunraku. Elaborate costume, dance, Japanese fans, and masks are essential parts to Japanese music, theater and dance. Destination Brazil! will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. or from 1 to 4:15 p.m. July 12-23. Brazil, home to more than sixty percent of the Amazon Rainforest has been influenced by the Portuguese Empire, Africa and its native indigenous tribes. From these strong influences; distinct styles of music, dance and theater such as samba, choro and forro have developed. Children will learn about the art and culture that has changed Brazil. Destinations California! will be held from 1 to 4:15 p.m. Aug. 2-13. California, the most populous state in America, has mystified, entertained and delighted us for centuries. Home of the bright lights of Hollywood, the 1848 Gold Rush and The Beach Boys. The Golden State has a plethora of arts and cultural attractions for children to explore.
